What Are Your Travel Plans for 2018?

A New Year is like a much-needed breath of fresh air. I get to feeling almost giddy with the possibilities that play through my mind. I think about areas where I want to improve myself, expand my horizons, learn to think outside the box of my everyday existence and firm up my travel plans. I feel empowered to steer my life course fueled by those important decisions that I make on a daily basis.

My travel plans get easily out of control as I write down everything I want to see and do. However, when I’m done, I scale it back one piece at a time until I’m looking at what is most significant and important. Then I begin to put my plans into motion.

What are your travel plans for 2018? Are you like me and have an endless list of places to explore? It’s time to hone in on your list and make a plan to expand your world with meaningful travel this year. If you are unable to get out, don’t let that stop you. Plan your travels and find ways to explore via your armchair.

I had an experience at the Rome airport that really drove home the meaning of the term ‘hone in.’ It was one of my first trips to Rome. I sought out a lady at the info desk to find out about a shuttle to my hotel by the Vatican. She asked me the address but I didn’t have it. I just assumed she would recognize the hotel by name and know exactly where it was. I just stood there mumbling nonsense. She looked at me and replied, “ I can’t help you if you don’t know what you want.” I wasn’t clear nor did I know the pertinent information and I got what I deserved. It was a short, valuable lesson.

I hope you will sit down and explore your opportunities for travel. Then when you have determined where you will go, be sure and prepare yourself by having all the information you will need at your fingertips. Do your research ahead of time and when that exciting time comes to jet on out, you will be that much closer to a seamless experience.

Buon Viaggio! Happy travels for 2018

  • My dream list is too long to list, but I’ll definitely return to Calabria and I plan on continuing my exploration of Basilicata. I just reflected on last year’s NY Times’ list of places to visit in 2017. Amazingly, out of the 52 places on the list, Calabria was the only Italian region selected for 2017. I’m curious to see which town or region will be chosen for 2018. Buon viaggio!

  • We are going to Sorrento Italy at the end of Oct for 6 days then meet our tour group in Palermo for a three week tour of Sicily. As we will be on our own in Sorrento, can you outline some of the must see places and great places to eat in Sorrento at the end of October

    • Sorrento has the Marina Grande that is a great place to explore with the restaurant Porta Marina Seafood that has great views and good seafood. From the main square in town, you can walk through the historic center on most of the streets. Villa Comunale is a public park high on a cliff with stunning views. Also, a must-see is Pompeii which is about a 45 min. drive from Sorrento. I would get a guide when you arrive so you will understand what you are looking at. Very fascinating. Hope this helps…Buon Viaggio!

  • I’m reading this from our rooftop perch in Palermo, where we’ve kicked off 2018. We’ve long wanted to spend more time in Sicily, and grabbed this week to do so – we’re enchanted with this vibrant, gorgeous and delicious city! Will be exploring this side of the island for the rest of the week – can’t wait!

  • I am heading back to Italy in February and will stay until mid June. We are hoping to go to Naples and the Amalfi Coast, Saturnia and Lake Garda as well as a trip to northern Spain. Having a base in lovely Italy is great.
    I hope you have a wonderful 2018.
